Caro Steve,
ti scrivo per informarti di ciò che sta accadendo in Italia, il secondo Paese nel mondo considerando la penetrazione della telefonia mobile. Dopo un anno e mezzo di attesa, dopo aver visto l’iPhone EDGE in vendita solo per alcuni paesi, siamo rimasti indignati di fronte alla politica dei prezzi praticata da TIM e Vodafone, i due operatori con cui Apple ha stretto accordi per il nostro Paese.
Siamo a conoscenza delle potenzialità dell’iPhone 3G, delle sue caratteristiche, del HSDPA, del GPS, di Safari e di tutte le altre funzioni. Siamo consapevoli che la piattaforma OS X per iPhone è ottima per l’utilizzo dei programmi dell’App Store. Sappiamo che l’iPhone 3G non è un semplice telefono, perchè la piattaforma OS X può generare un nuovo mercato per i programmi e giochi. Tutto questo sembra ignorato dai nostri operatori che vogliono lucrare ai danni dell’immagine del telefono che Apple ha costruito negli ultimi mesi. Stanno trasformando l’iPhone in un dispositivo per poche persone anziché un telefono per tutti. La politica di Apple di abbassare il prezzo per renderlo appetibile a tutti, in Italia è stata spazzata via.
Stiamo promuovendo una petizione per convincere gli operatori ad abbassare le tariffe che, tra l’altro, non prevedono dati illimitati, elemento che limita l’utilizzo del telefono. Siamo già tantissimi ad aver aderito e aumentiamo giorno dopo giorno. Abbiamo intenzione di boicottare l’iPhone 3G e non comprarlo.

I’m writing you to give some updates on what’s happening here in Italy, the second largest country in the world considering market penetration of mobile phones. After a year and a half of waiting, after seeing the EDGE iPhone available only in some countries, we were indignated when we looked at the price policies applied by TIM and Vodafone, the two carriers Apple choose for the distribution of the iPhone in our country.
We understand the potential of the iPhone 3G, of its features, of the HSDPA, of the GPS, of Safari and all the other functionalities. We comprehend that the OS X platform on the iPhone is the perfect solution for the usage of the applications in the App Store. We know the iPhone 3G is not just a phone: because of the OS X platform it can generate a whole new market for applications and games. This seems to be unimportant for our carriers that only want to make profits to the detriment of the image of the phone Apple built in the latest months. They’re making the iPhone a device for some instead of the phone for everyone. The commitment Apple made to lower the price and make it accessible to everyone, in Italy has been simply disregarded.
We’re promoting a petition to make the carriers lower the rates that, among other things, don’t comprehend unlimited data plans, thus posing a limit on the usability of the phone. We’re already many thousands and growing day by day. We’re committed to boycott the iPhone 3G and we won’t buy it.
We’re asking you to intervene and push the adaptation of the rates to the italian market situation and to the phone special features.
